THE QUIET DEBT

Eight songs on borrowed peace, invisible circuits, and the work of choosing again

Peace purchased as comfort becomes an unseen circuit of distance, divided responsibility, and deferred payment. Once the wiring is visible, the only honest answer is to choose again.

PEACE ON CREDIT

[Intro — whispered]

No sirens.
No smoke.
Last train right on time.

We call it peace
when the fire is out of sight.

[Verse 1]

The last train cuts the midnight clean,
Black glass, white shirts, electric sheen.
No warning light, no shattered street,
Just perfect clocks and quiet feet.

A tiny part, a serial name,
Passes three hands and enters flame.
We never hear the engine start—
We only make the smallest part.

[Pre-Chorus]

Keep the windows polished,
Keep the headlines low.
If the smoke is somewhere else,
How would we ever know?

[Chorus]

We buy our peace on credit,
Swipe the silence, pay it later.
Keep the burning out of focus,
Let the distance keep us blameless.

We buy our peace on credit,
Every comfort signs the paper.
And the bill is in the wiring—
It is coming home someday.

[Post-Chorus]

No sirens, no smoke—
Quiet is not innocent.
No sirens, no smoke—
Distance doesn’t make us clean.

[Verse 2]

We rent our safety year by year,
With borrowed eyes and borrowed fear.
We send the danger out to sea,
And call the distance purity.

Clean hands are resting on the rail,
Clean streets conceal a longer trail.
The farther that a body falls,
The easier to say, “Not ours.”

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Keep the room immaculate,
Let the low light glow.
If the truth can match the décor,
Maybe no one needs to know.

[Chorus]

We buy our peace on credit,
Swipe the silence, pay it later.
Keep the burning out of focus,
Let the distance keep us blameless.

We buy our peace on credit,
Every comfort signs the paper.
And the bill is in the wiring—
It is coming home someday.

[Bridge — drums drop, bass pulse]

Peace is not a state we’re in;
It’s a choice we must repeat—
In every name upon a crate,
In every vote and every receipt.

If comfort asks another street
To hold the fire we will not see,
Then quiet is not innocence,
And distance is not peace.

[Final Chorus]

We bought our peace on credit,
Now the interest fills the air.
Kept the burning out of focus
Till the smoke was everywhere.

We bought our peace on credit,
Signed our names and disappeared.
But the bill inside the wiring
Was already waiting here.

[Outro — whispered]

No sirens.
No smoke.
Still, the circuit keeps the score.

No sirens.
No smoke.
Quiet is not peace anymore.

02 PART I / THE PURCHASE
OFFSET

THE FARTHER IT BURNS

[Intro — filtered whisper]

Turn it down.
Move it back.
Make the fire abstract.

[Verse 1]

Blue light washing over dinner,
Headlines crawl, the glassware shimmers.
Another skyline folds in two;
We swipe it past to something new.

No ash comes through the double glass,
So every ruin scrolls right past.
A war reduced to silent squares—
We call it distant. Call it theirs.

[Pre-Chorus]

Make it smaller.
Make it clean.
Put a border on the screen.

[Chorus]

The farther it burns,
the cleaner we feel.
Turn down the world
till the damage looks unreal.

The farther it burns,
the deeper we sleep.
But the smoke has learned our address,
and the silence starts to leak.

[Verse 2]

We build the sensor, ship the lens,
Then pass the cargo through our friends.
No single hand can trace the chain,
So every hand can dodge the stain.

The port is calm, the market climbs,
The paperwork arrives on time.
A million normal acts agree
To build what no one wants to see.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Call it transit.
Call it trade.
Every clean word hides a blade.

[Chorus]

The farther it burns,
the cleaner we feel.
Turn down the world
till the damage looks unreal.

The farther it burns,
the deeper we sleep.
But the smoke has learned our address,
and the silence starts to leak.

[Bridge — bass and voice only]

Distance is a kind of costume
Guilt can wear to look like peace.
Every mile becomes permission;
Every silence signs the lease.

No clean room, no neutral wire,
No horizon makes it right.
If our comfort needs a fire,
We are living by its light.

[Breakdown — near-spoken]

We didn’t call it war—
we called it supply.

We didn’t call it fear—
we called it quiet.

We didn’t choose a side—
we only chose the price.

[Final Chorus]

The farther it burns,
the cleaner we feel.
Turn down the world
till the damage looks unreal.

The farther it burns,
the deeper we sleep.
Now the smoke is in the hallway,
and the quiet comes to collect.

[Outro — filtered whisper]

Turn it down.
Move it back.
Still the fire found the map.

Out of frame,
never gone.
We were in the picture all along.

VACANCY

NOTHING CHOSE FOR US

[Intro — whispered]

No hand raised.
No voice.
Still, the silence made a choice.

[Verse 1]

The room stayed warm, the screen stayed blue,
We let the evening tell us what was true.
Every warning softened into weather,
Every later stitched the years together.

We kept our names outside the frame,
No side to lose, no side to blame.
But open doors don’t stay unclaimed;
Someone always enters in your name.

[Pre-Chorus]

Hands off the wheel,
Eyes on the road.
We called it calm
While the current chose.

[Chorus]

We did nothing—
Nothing chose for us.
Left the door wide open
And called it trust.

We did nothing—
Watched the signal fade.
Now tomorrow wears the choice
We never made.

[Post-Chorus]

Nothing said—
Silence still gets counted.
Nothing done—
Every absence leaves an outline.

[Verse 2]

We wore our doubt in neutral white,
A perfect shade beneath the city lights.
No stain, no flag, no stated aim—
But clean hands still can tilt the game.

A thousand small withdrawals of care:
No question asked, no witness there.
The quiet moved from room to room
Until the smoke became perfume.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Hands in our pockets,
Eyes on the floor.
We called it peace
And asked for nothing more.

[Chorus]

We did nothing—
Nothing chose for us.
Left the door wide open
And called it trust.

We did nothing—
Watched the signal fade.
Now tomorrow wears the choice
We never made.

[Bridge — stripped down]

Neutrality is rented space;
Someone else still holds the key.
Every blank we leave behind
Becomes another’s policy.

Peace is not the air untouched,
Nor sleep before the crash.
It is what we choose to guard
When choosing has a cost.

[Breakdown — spoken]

We did nothing.
The room kept moving.

We said nothing.
Silence used our names.

[Final Chorus]

We did nothing—
Nothing chose for us.
Left the door wide open
And called it trust.

We did nothing—
Watched the signal fade.
Now tomorrow pays the interest
On every choice delayed.

[Outro — whispered]

No hand raised.
No voice.
Still, the silence made a choice.

No decision.
No escape.
We became the choice we never made.

04 PART II / THE MACHINERY
PRACTICE

MADE EVERY DAY

[Intro — layered whispers]

Made every day.
Or given away.
Made every day.

[Verse 1]

Morning draws a silver line
Across the keys, the cups, the signs.
Nothing trembles, nothing breaks;
The city trusts the shape it takes.

Peace wears no medal, makes no sound;
It lives in what we pass around—
Who gets heard, what gets erased,
What we excuse to keep our place.

[Pre-Chorus]

No final bell,
No finish line.
Only the choices
We repeat in time.

[Chorus]

Made every day,
or given away.
Peace is not a room
where we get to stay.

Made every day,
in what we choose.
It isn’t what we own—
it’s what we refuse to lose.

[Post-Chorus]

Made every day.
Made every day.
Or given away.

[Verse 2]

A receipt, a lowered gaze,
A rumor passed, a truth delayed.
No single act can bear the blame;
Together, they become the frame.

The cleanest hands complete the trade
By never asking who has paid.
The future does not enter loud;
It learns the habits of the crowd.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

No breaking news,
No flashing light.
Just what grows normal
One day at a time.

[Chorus]

Made every day,
or given away.
Peace is not a room
where we get to stay.

Made every day,
in what we choose.
It isn’t what we own—
it’s what we refuse to lose.

[Bridge — drums fall away]

The world we call inevitable
Is what we make acceptable.

Peace is built before the sirens,
In the questions comfort fears,
In the courage to be difficult,
In the choices no one cheers.

[Breakdown — layered whispers]

Not a feeling.
Not a flag.
Not a room behind the glass.

Not inherited.
Not guaranteed.
Only practiced.
Only kept.

[Final Chorus]

Made every day,
or given away.
Peace is not a room
where we get to stay.

Made every day,
in what we choose.
It isn’t what we own—
it’s what we refuse to lose.

[Final Refrain]

Made every day,
before it has a name.
Long before the sirens,
long before the flame.

Made every day—
no promise, no prize.
Tomorrow takes the shape
of what we normalize.

[Outro — whispered]

Made every day.
Or given away.

Tomorrow takes the shape
of what we normalize.

05 PART II / THE MACHINERY
ASSEMBLY

JUST MY PART

[Intro — filtered whisper]

Just my part.
Nothing more.
A little key in a quiet door.

[Verse 1]

I checked the code, I cleared the name,
Moved one number down the chain.
No blood beneath the office light,
No smoke to stain the screen at night.

I never saw the final shape,
I only cleared another gate.
A minor task, a modest mark—
A little part, a little spark.

[Pre-Chorus]

Pass it left, pass it right.
Keep the whole thing out of sight.
Small enough to stand apart,
Small enough to call it “just my part.”

[Chorus]

Just my part, just my part—
That’s how the whole machine starts.
Clean hands moving in the dark,
Each one doing just their part.

No one says, “Let cities burn”;
We sign the line and take our turn.
Piece by piece, the pieces match—
Then the fire finds the map.

[Post-Chorus]

Small enough to feel no shame.
All together, still a flame.

[Verse 2]

New label on an old design,
Three more borders, right on time.
A broker calls, the figures clear;
The purpose blurs with every tier.

We break the chain to grains of sand,
Too small to stain a single hand.
And every fragment looks benign
Until the fragments synchronize.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Pass it on, change the name.
Every border launders blame.
Small enough to stand apart,
Small enough to call it “just my part.”

[Chorus]

Just my part, just my part—
That’s how the whole machine starts.
Clean hands moving in the dark,
Each one doing just their part.

No one says, “Let cities burn”;
We sign the line and take our turn.
Piece by piece, the pieces match—
Then the fire finds the map.

[Bridge — machine pulse and voice]

A system has no hands but ours,
No pulse but all our borrowed hours.
It cannot move, it cannot hide
Without a thousand hands inside.

We call the whole inevitable
To make each fragment forgivable.
But every engine, law, and war
Is built from things we call too small.

[Breakdown — spoken]

I moved the crate.
I sent the mail.
I met the target.
I made the sale.

I never chose the final aim.
Still, it traveled through my name.

[Final Chorus]

Just our parts, just our parts—
That’s how the whole machine starts.
Every hand can claim it’s clean;
Together, we become the machine.

No one owned the final act;
We only kept the circuit intact.
Piece by piece, the pieces matched—
Then the fire found the map.

[Final Post-Chorus]

Small enough to feel no shame.
All together, still a flame.

[Outro — filtered whisper]

No one built it alone.

We built it
one excuse at a time.

06 PART III / THE WATCH
VIGIL

SOMEONE ELSE STAYS AWAKE

[Intro — low voice]

Sleep well.
Someone else stays awake.

[Verse 1]

Curtains breathing, routers glow,
Last train sliding soft below.
No boots outside, no windows shake
Because somewhere someone stays awake.

Our weather comes through borrowed eyes,
Distant radar, coded skies.
We inherit every quiet night,
Then call the absence ours by right.

[Pre-Chorus]

Keep the danger off the page.
Keep the sentry out of frame.
If we never see the weight,
We can call the silence safe.

[Chorus]

We sleep so well
’cause someone else stays awake.
We call it peace
when we don’t feel what it takes.

We sleep so well
under somebody else’s weight.
But every borrowed night
comes due at daybreak.

[Post-Chorus]

Sleep so well.
Sleep so well.
Someone else stays awake.

[Verse 2]

We lease the shield, forget the name,
Outsource the warning and the blame.
Let oceans hold what we won’t face,
Then praise ourselves for being safe.

A calm apartment, polished floor,
A treaty sleeping in a drawer.
We wear the quiet like it’s free
While someone tends the machinery.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Keep the invoice out of sight.
Keep the watcher out of mind.
If the cost is paid elsewhere,
We can call the comfort kind.

[Chorus]

We sleep so well
’cause someone else stays awake.
We call it peace
when we don’t feel what it takes.

We sleep so well
under somebody else’s weight.
But every borrowed night
comes due at daybreak.

[Bridge — drums disappear]

Peace is not the hand that shields
While we pretend no hand is there;
Not the sleep of those protected
By a vigilance they never share.

Every shelter has a structure.
Every silence has a source.
What we borrow without naming
Still can steer us by its force.

[Breakdown — whispered rhythmically]

No alarm.
No demand.
Just another borrowed hand.

No inspection.
No dissent.
Still the quiet comes with rent.

[Final Chorus]

We slept so well
while someone else stayed awake.
We called it peace
’cause we never saw the stakes.

We slept so well
under somebody else’s weight.
Now every borrowed night
is standing at the gate.

[Final Refrain]

Someone else stayed awake.
Someone else carried the weight.
Someone else guarded the dark
While we mistook sleep for a state.

[Outro — low voice]

Sleep well.
The morning knows our name.

No sirens here.
Still, the bill came all the same.

07 PART III / THE WATCH
TRACE

NO ONE IS OUTSIDE

[Intro — layered whispers]

Outside the frame.
Outside the fire.
Outside the blame.

There is no outside.

[Verse 1]

We watched the border on a screen,
A clean red line, a space between.
Here was the table, there the flame;
A different language, different names.

But copper crosses every sea,
The money moves invisibly.
A button pressed beneath white light
Can enter someone else’s night.

[Pre-Chorus]

Draw the line.
Lock the door.
Say it isn’t ours.

Every wall
has wires running
out into the dark.

[Chorus]

No one is outside.
No one stands apart.
Every quiet city
has a wire to the dark.

No one is outside.
Distance is a lie.
What we send away from us
still travels under every light.

[Post-Chorus]

No one is outside.
No one is clean by distance.

[Verse 2]

The market opens, numbers rise;
A burning street becomes a price.
The shipment clears, the signal lands,
The consequence changes hands.

Not every hand has equal weight.
Not every silence builds the same.
But every system needs a road,
And every road is made of choices.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Change the route.
Change the name.
Keep the purpose blurred.

Every border
makes the action
easier to misname.

[Chorus]

No one is outside.
No one stands apart.
Every quiet city
has a wire to the dark.

No one is outside.
Distance is a lie.
What we send away from us
still travels under every light.

[Bridge — heartbeat kick and voice]

We are not equally responsible,
But none of us are nowhere.

Some give orders.
Some make profit.
Some look away
because looking has a cost.

The question is not whether
our hands have touched the fire.

The question is what we do
once we can see the wire.

[Breakdown — whispered fragments]

Follow the wire.
Follow the payment.
Follow the silence.
Follow it home.

No outside.
No outside.

[Final Chorus]

No one is outside.
No one stands apart.
Every borrowed morning
has a wire to the dark.

No one is outside.
Now the line is gone.
What we called another’s war
was moving through us all along.

[Final Refrain]

Not the same guilt.
Not the same cost.
Still, no one is outside.

Not the same power.
Not the same choice.
Still, no one is outside.

[Outro — single voice]

The fire was never everywhere.

The system was.

08 PART IV / THE RETURN
RETURN

EVERY DAY AGAIN

[Intro — distant layered whispers]

Peace on credit.
Someone else stays awake.
No one is outside.

[Single voice]

Morning comes anyway.

[Verse 1]

Morning enters without proof,
Across the glass, across the roofs.
The trains arrive, the markets wake;
The wires hum beneath the day.

Now we have seen where circuits lead.
We cannot call the distance clean.
Knowing alone won’t stop the flame—
But after knowing, choice has changed.

[Pre-Chorus]

No final line.
No finish bell.
No innocence
we get to sell.

Only the work
beneath the calm;
The question placed
inside each palm.

[Chorus]

Every day again,
we choose what we defend.
Peace is never finished;
it begins where comfort ends.

Every day again,
with open eyes and open hands.
Not a shelter we inherit—
Something made by where we stand.

[Post-Chorus]

Every day again.
Made every day.
Every day again.

[Verse 2]

Check the route and ask the name.
Follow payment, trace the chain.
Refuse the word that hides the blade.
Refuse the ease of looking away.

Some choices small, some power vast;
Not every hand can change the map.
But every silence shapes the room,
And every question changes what gets through.

[Pre-Chorus 2]

Not every burden
is the same.
Not every person
shares the blame.

But once the wire
is visible,
Indifference
becomes a choice.

[Chorus]

Every day again,
we choose what we defend.
Peace is never finished;
it begins where comfort ends.

Every day again,
with open eyes and open hands.
Not a shelter we inherit—
Something made by where we stand.

[Bridge — piano, pulse and voice]

We will miss the hidden route.
We will tire. We will doubt.
We will choose the easier lie
And have to turn ourselves around.

Peace is not our purity.
It is repair without applause—
The courage to remain awake
When comfort says, “It’s not our war.”

[Breakdown — dry spoken voice]

Not clean hands.

Open hands.

Not innocence.

Attention.

Not one grand heroic act—

A thousand ordinary choices.

[Layered whispers]

Just my part.
No one is outside.
Made every day.

[Final Chorus]

Every day again,
we choose what we defend.
Peace is never finished;
it begins where comfort ends.

Every day again,
not perfect, not absolved.
We keep the question living
when the easy answer calls.

Every day again—
No promise that we’ll win.
Only this: when morning comes,
we choose where to begin.

[Final Refrain]

No one is outside.
No one acts alone.
Every quiet morning
is a choice we bring back home.

Made every day.
Unmade the same.
No final peace—

Every day again.

[Outro — instruments disappear]

No sirens.
No smoke.
Morning on the glass.

We do not know
if peace will last.

The light comes in.
The circuit hums.

[Single dry voice]

Every day again.
